New collections – just in and awaiting cataloguing

In July we received some fantastic slides and photos of Much Hadham in the 1940s and 50s. In particular, there are some great photos of sports teams at Green Tye, most of them with named individuals (Ref Acc 6085). We were given a detailed inventory of all the furniture and effects at Bushey Railway Station from 1896 (Ref Acc 6087) and an unusual Met Police accident map from the 1940s – showing blackspots on Hertfordshire’s roads, along with neighbouring counties (Ref Off Acc 1919)

In August we were donated two letters from the 1880s by Hubert Von Herkomer, the famous Victorian artist who lived in Bushey. They were found in a charity shop in Wales and refer to portraits he was painting at the time (Ref Acc 6088). We also received some interesting prints and portraits relating to people and places in St Albans in the early 1900s (Ref Acc 6095)
